Easter 2012

Easter Sunday 2012 was incredible! We had a good number in attendance and many visitors and guests visiting from other churches.

Brother Scott preached a fantastic message about true conversion! We should all be thankful and praise God for our church.

This Thursday our mission team will leave for Norwich, Connecticut to conduct services and to do outreach. Pray for our team.

Singin’ Saints

Singin' Saints at Magnolia House

Today our Singin’ Saints senior adult choir met for rehearsal and took a trip to the
Magnolia House off of Richmond Road to sing for the residents there.
We had a great time and enjoyed lunch at Subies Deli afterward.
We will meet again the first Thursday in April if you would like to join us.

We have a great group of students who attend each week.
The youth meet in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00p.m.

Revival Services Begin Today!

Homework Club @ Theron Jones Early Literacy Center

Yesterday we started the homework club for the Spring semester.
We had taken a longer break than anticipated because our bus that we use to take the kids home was in the shop.
We meet every Monday at Theron Jones from 3-4 pm.
I think the kids were all happy to see us. We lost some volunteers, but we gained some new workers yesterday and had plenty of tutors. Of course, it would be great if we could have 1 on 1 tutoring time, so we could always use volunteers.
Brother Scott taught the kids about character yesterday and about the importance of developing character on the inside.
After the lesson we got busy with spelling words and math. Then after the club, we had our usual noisy bus ride home!

Hot Hearts 2012 – Our God is Surely Alive

This year was my very first to experience the phenomenon known as Hot Hearts. Since I’ve been here I’ve heard so much of this storied event and how Texarkana has the one remaining institutions known as Hot Hearts. This year was especially exciting. Kristian Stanfield led worship. I first saw Kristian Stanfield a few years ago in a setting even smaller than Hot Hearts. It was at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, and the venue only held about 300 people (maybe). As I was watching him in that setting, I thought to myeself, “This guy is going places.” He was very good and you could just tell his heart was in the right place. Toward the end of the concert he said, “Tomorrow night we’ll be doing Passion in Fort Worth.” My initial gut feeling was right. He was going places. The very next day. I so called that.

The rest is history. He’s got a hugely popular song that many churches are singing. He is turning into the “got-to-have” worship leader in the Christian world…and here he is at Hot Hearts in Texarkana, Texas. What a blessing for our students to be able to be led in worship by such a genuine, exciting up-and-comer.

Jared Hall, the illusionist, was absolutely hilarious. His brand of comedy is smart, satirical and his illusions are very good. He was a great icebreaker leading into and in between worship.

Jeff Mangum, from the Austin area, brought the word for the weekend’s event. He was very Christ-centered and brought a great message of where the Christian faith should lead us and how we should conduct our lives, spiritually and logically.

Hot Hearts was such a great refresher for our students to worship with others in a setting designed specifically for them. I was very impressed with my first visit and can’t wait for next year.

A Great Weekend of Worship

We had the privilege of having Shaun and Deshni in our services yesterday (2/5).
Shaun preached in both the early and late services as well as in our evening service. The sermons preached yesterday can be heard here.
Despite the fact that the Super Bowl was on, the turnout for the evening service was great!

During Sunday School, Shaun and John Yates shared with the youth and college students about reaching their friends for Christ.
