Nursery & Preschool Minstries
Our preschool classes study the Bible using the Lifeway preschool literature as a guide. We also like to emphasize the teachings of Jesus with each lesson so that the children learn the basics of the gospel at an early age. We enjoy serving as a part of Operation Christmas Child as separate classes. We enjoy time together through fellowships such as Christmas parties, Easter celebrations, and other activities.
Thank you for sharing your little ones with us! Each week we strive to:
1. Present biblical truths in creative, memorable ways;
2. Partner with parents in modeling loving, Christian relationships; and
3. Provide exciting opportunities for growth and learning
Below are answers to some frequently asked questions:
How do I find a class for my child?
All pre-schoolers report to the check-in desk located in the preschool building (under the awning). A helper will guide you through the process of getting your children situated.
What if my child cries when I leave him?
In most cases, children will quickly adjust. Once they see the toys, other children their age, and learning centers, they will become engaged. The teachers are trained to deal with upset children. However, if your child continues to cry for over 10 minutes, we will page you.
What is The Sick Policy
For the protection of our teachers and other children, please do not bring your child to the Nursery or Pre-School if he/she has any of the following symptoms:
Fever
Earache
Diarrhea
Persistent Cough
Vomiting
Swollen Glands
Sore Throat
Heavy Congestion
Unexplained Rash
Any Skin Infection
Colored Discharge (from nose, eyes, or ears)
If your child exhibits any of these symptoms while in our care, we will contact you immediately to pick him/her up.
We DO NOT administer any type of medication. If your child has a diaper rash and you would like a topical ointment applied, let us know at check-in time. Please make sure your child is symptom-free for a period of 24 hours before you return him/her to the church.
How can you find a parent located in another building, like if my child becomes ill during the hour?
Families of children who are Nursery age will receive a beeper/pager that will alert them that they are needed at their child’s classroom.
How can I be sure that no one else picks up my child?
When you check in your child, you will be given a sticker that has your child’s name on it. Please place this sticker onto your child. You will receive a duplicate matching sticker that has a multi-digit security code on it. You, as the parent, should keep this duplicate security sticker, as well as the pager, with you. When you pick up your child, you must have the matching sticker.
Why don’t you give me my child if I don’t have the tag, especially when my child is yelling, “Mommy”?
Our first priority is the safety and security of the child. The security tag system is the most effective way to ensure that only authorized people pick up your child. In the case of divorced parents, the child can identify either parent, but that parent may not have custodial rights or visitation privileges that weekend. Staff will assist in this circumstance as necessary.
What if I lose my sticker?
If you ever lose your child’s security sticker, you will need to provide some form of identification. Most people carry their driver’s license with them, allowing the staff to easily match up your personal information as well as confirm that you are the person who initially checked them into programming. You may be asked to fill out the missing tag form.
How old does my child have to be before I can leave him in the Nursery?
There is no minimum age. Whenever the parents feel comfortable, they may leave their child.
What if I want to change my child’s room assignment because he is older or more mature than the other children in his class? What if I want to keep my child back?
The children are grouped by their birth date, ensuring that everyone in the class is approximately the same age. Although height and maturity vary from child to child, we provide quality activities that are geared toward your child’s abilities. We promote children once a year, the last weekend in August, to coordinate with the time the school year begins. Our age group classifications are consistent with the local school systems—your child’s age on September 1. On the other hand, some parents wish to keep their children back from moving up to Kindergarten, etc. Accommodations can be made for this situation. You should let the preschool minister assist you.
What programs/accommodations are there for a special needs child?
First Baptist Church Wake Village strives to offer a loving and compassionate environment to all of our children, regardless of race, social status, sex or disability. We are diligent in making sure that each child feels welcome and comfortable. Please discuss any behavioral issues or matters concerning a child with special needs, dietary allergies, or any other helpful information about your child that will help ensure that the child has a positive experience.
How can I be sure that the teachers and volunteers can be trusted?
All workers must fill out a ministry partner application. We also do a National Criminal Background check. Additionally, all teachers are screened and trained in their area of Ministry.
Is there a place to Nurse my baby?
There is a Mother’s Room, located in the preschool building. This room has comfy chairs and a couch to make your visit more comfortable.
